Qineng Technology has partnered with Envicool to implement an efficient cooling solution at the Guangling Super Energy Complex in China. This solution is intended to address the issue of heat dissipation in high-density server racks, building China's highest single-rack density naturally cooled air-cooled server room. The aim is to adapt to next-generation computing power, while achieving the optimal cooling solution for the computing park under the premise of zero water consumption.
Located in Datong, Shanxi, the computing park at the Guangling Super Energy Complex is an industry-vertically-integrated platform that combines green energy, computing infrastructure, equipment manufacturing, and campus services. It is advancing towards becoming the world's first vertically integrated ecological computing infrastructure, achieving energy-computing integration, computing-power-grid coordination, and localized convergence.

Currently, part of this computing center — which blends the ancient charm of Datong with modern technological quality — has been delivered and put into operation. The new-generation cooling system jointly developed by Envicool and Qineng Technology has also completed commissioning and entered service.
Zero Water Consumption, Efficient Use of Natural Cooling Sources
Datong City in Shanxi lies in a temperate continental semi-arid monsoon climate zone, with an annual precipitation of about 400 mm and scarce water resources. At the same time, influenced by monsoons, Datong’s average annual temperature is around 6°C, allowing natural cooling sources to be utilized for cooling for up to 10 months each year.
Based on local water resource conditions and different application scenarios and power densities, the project’s cooling system is equipped with a coordinated solution involving multiple cooling sources and terminal unit types. These include the XMint High-Efficiency Evaporative Cooling Multi-VRF Systems paired with proximity air walls, CyberMate V+ Series Inverter CRAC units, and XRow Series Efficient Row-based Air Conditioners. From system architecture to terminal coordination, this setup ensures zero water consumption and energy-efficient operation of the data center.
The cooling source primarily uses Envicool XMint High-Efficiency Evaporative Cooling Multi-VRF Systems, paired with proximity air walls at the terminal. The system integrates energy-saving technologies such as variable-frequency magnetic levitation compression, liquid pump free-cooling, and multi-connected adaptive refrigeration. The entire system involves only secondary heat exchange, consumes no water, reliably addresses heat dissipation for high-power air-cooled high-density racks, and meets continuous cooling demands for multi-story and large-scale data centers.
Equipped with liquid pump energy-saving circulation technology, Envicool’s XMint system can automatically switch between liquid pump free-cooling mode and hybrid operation mode based on outdoor temperatures, making full use of natural cooling sources. In Datong, this air-cooled high-density solution can operate entirely on free cooling for over half of the year, thereby realizing China’s highest single-rack-density free-cooling air-cooled data hall.

Multi-Terminal Coordination to Enhance Overall Energy Efficiency
In the indoor-side architecture design of the project, Envicool adopted a coordinated solution with multiple terminal types to further optimize PUE and enhance cooling effectiveness.
The XRow Series Efficient Row-based Air Conditioners are installed close to heat sources and integrate refrigerant pump free-cooling technology. Equipped with EC fans and DC variable-frequency compressors, they achieve 20%–30% energy savings on fans and offer 10%–100% stepless cooling capacity adjustment. The built-in EVO controller adjusts air volume and cooling output on demand, further improving reliability and energy efficiency in auxiliary equipment rooms.
Meanwhile, the CyberMate V+ Series Inverter CRAC units used in power equipment rooms represent the most suitable cooling method for electrical distribution equipment. Based on a fully variable-frequency design and integrating refrigerant pump free-cooling technology, the system can adaptively adjust cooling according to changes in the data hall’s heat load. It is also equipped with high-efficiency EC fans and designed for high return air temperatures, achieving significant improvements in fan energy savings and overall system efficiency.
Standing at the foot of the Taihang Mountains, we witness Datong’s transformation from “exporting coal and electricity” to “exporting computing power and services.” In this process, Envicool provides reliable technical support for the computing park at the Guangling Super Energy Complex and other computing centers through its efficient cooling solutions.
In the future, the deep integration of technology and energy will unleash even greater potential, driving the digital economy towards higher efficiency and sustainability. Envicool will continue to collaborate with industry partners such as Qineng Technology, focusing on R&D and exploration of advanced technologies in the computing field, and supporting the vigorous development of China’s computing infrastructure industry.
